Paper prototyping and wireframe design for a financial product February 16, 2010
It’s a fact that low-fidelity prototypes can shorten development time. Given a choice we always suggest our clients to agree with a process that starts from Paper Prototying or Wire framing. In order to make sure that their product will be user friendly and also the potential usability problems will be detected at a very early stage in the design process.
Recently we have been doing consulting for a company called Rising Sun. They wanted us to help them re-design a financial product which will be sold to companies to take control of all expenses. Using role based work flow like clerks, directors, cashiers, and accountants.
Their existing application looked really plain and boring. On the technical side it was very powerful which makes the application look pretty close to a web version of Tally software including a lot of additional features.

The re-design process started with paper prototyping and just in a day client could feel how badly it was needed much earlier. In fact there after client himself was able to give more inputs in terms of making it usable in line to the current functionality.

We moved on to the digital Wireframing after getting enough ideas from paper prototyping efforts and a positive vibration from client side. We still did not want to move directly on to the final layout design process. To make sure we are moving on to the right direction. If not, changes can be made easily without wasting a lot of time. Take a look at to some wireframing examples:

Looking at what’s been already done with the wireframes it looks so easy to come up with a beautiful interface design.
